Wewak Catholic Diocese: More Evangelisation in PNG

Papua New Guinea needs more religious men and women who can provide spiritual directions in this challenging time.

This was the take home message from Br. Patrick Bokorum of the Wewak Catholic Diocese.

Brother Patrick who comes from Yuo Island, East Sepik Province celebrated his 50 Years of serving as a religious of the Sacred Heart Brothers.

On Thursday October 6, 2016, Yuo Island hosted the Golden Jubilee celebrations.

His message focused on the approaches to evangelisation and the need for more work on evangelisation in the country.

“Signs of the times, tells us of the many challenges both social and political. Since then, we have a lot of young men and women trying to commit themselves in religious life.”

“We need more religious.”

Br Patrick said that vocation in Papua New Guinea has grown.

However, more young people are needed to serve in these ministries.

“There seem to be not many young people interested to join religious life. So we have to encourage them.”

The Sepik’s united in the Golden Jubilee celebrations, especially in parishes where Brother Patrick served.

Louis Huti from Saint Theresa Parish; Vanimo Diocese, in the West Sepik Province, also expressed the need for more vocation.

“It’s up to us parents. We have to encourage our children and support also those who are in the formation.”

“We must try and give back to the church,” he said.

Huti said that Br Patrick’s 50 Years of Religious Life must be an example of evangelisation.
