Political Will On Tourism Needed

A local entrepreneur of East Sepik Province, Robert Marek, says the growth of the tourism industry in Papua New Guinea needs political will.

Marek who owns the Naigboi Guest House, on Yuo Island, says tourism brings many benefits, important for economic liability.

And he and his wife, Cathrine is a testimony of the potential of the SME sector, which has been operating since 2008.

Mr Marek says that he has been supported since day one by the manager for Gala Enterprises, Alois Mateos.

“Mr Mateos has marketed us in the domestic and international market.”

Naigboi Guest House provides accommodation, conference facilities and surfing.

“We launched it at Yuo and then Karaso which we have started a surf club and is registered with Sepik Dolphins Surf Club,” he said.

Naigboi Guest House provides local dishes which Cathrine mainly prepares, which guest have enjoyed and spoke highly about.

“I am happy because the tourists do taste the local foods I cook. I am always proud,” she said.

And there’re plans to expand Naigboi Guest House to cater for the demand of domestic and international tourists.
