Usino Bundi District in Madang has not wasted time in waiting for the national government to maintain its part of the deteriorating National Highway.
In a recent gathering, Usino Bundi MP, Anthon Yagama, presented a cheque for K223,000 to Kaia Works Construction to fix the damaged road.
Yagama said the slow approach taken by the Works Department has left parts of the Madang-Ramu road falling apart.
“The current road condition is not of standard as a national road, something needs to be done,” said Yagama.
He added that the slow approach by the Works Department due to funding hiccups has forced the condition to go from bad to worse.
This road is neither safe nor usable for the travelling public.
“If you are driving at night, please slow down because chances of accidents are high,” Yagama said.
The funding will see a stretch of the highway in Usino upgraded and maintained after landslips made the road almost impassable.
