Undersecretary Modly concluded his two-day tour in Papua New Guinea, with a visit to the PNG Defense Force Lancron Naval Base.
Modly, who is the second-in-command for the US Navy, during his visit, also met with several high-level government officials.
With the 2018 APEC Leaders Meeting just over a month away, Modly also took time to visit APEC House, which he said was on track to being a wonderful facility to be utilised during APEC.
Undersecretary Modly’s visit to PNG comes at a time when the US and its allies are looking to strengthen their relationship with the country, especially in the face of a perceived increasing influence from China.
According to Modly, PNG remains a critical and strategic partner for the US and its allies now, and into the future.
