The 12th APEC Senior Disaster Management Officials Forum is currently held in Kokopo.
The two day forum seeks to generate knowledge and share experiences on disaster resilience and its impacts on local economy in the APEC countries.
The forum has open doors to Papua New Guinea to the best available practices using modern technologies to incorporate in disaster preparedness and mitigation practices.
Some of the APEC member countries that attended the forum have suffered from natural disasters.
Minister for Inter-Government Relations Kevin Isifu who officiated during the opening today says their experiences shared during the forum will put PNG at a point of advantage to mitigate future tragedies.
The forum is a lead up meeting to the APEC summit in Port Moresby in November.
