UPNG Students to Handover Petition to NCD Governor

By Adelaide Kari – EM TV News, Port Moresby

University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) students will today hand over their petition to NCD Governor, Powes Parkop.

This comes after Governor Parkop and Port Moresby North-East Member, Labi Amaiu, arrived at the campus yesterday asking them to hand over the petition.

Parkop today at a news conference said he was willing to facilitate receiving the petition and handing it over to the Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill.

UPNG SRC President, Kenneth Rapa, said the students agreed to hand over the petition this morning.

He said the students had been suppressed and the SRC had exhausted all possible ways to hold a referendum. He said that 24-hours will be given for the Prime Minister to respond to their petition. If not, the SRC will meet with students to discuss the next course of action.
