By Sharlyne Eri -EMTV News, Port Moresby

Students studying under the University of Papua New Guinea’s Open College will now access teaching materials via the internet and live streaming.

In an effort to upgrade its teaching delivery, UPNG’s Open College, today (22 October, 2018), opened a multimedia studio.

The studio will enable the production of multimedia material as well as interactive live video streaming of tutorial sessions.

The new studio is in line with the university’s new strategic plan.

UPNG’s acting vice chancellor; Vincent Malaibe said the opening of the studio is timely as the university plans on introducing Masters and PHD programs.

As part of this plan, Mr Malaibe said there are plans to unload some undergraduate students to open colleges.

UPNG open college, through its centers throughout the country, facilitates the open and distance education programs.

Lecturers in the University’s main campus in Port Moresby will now use the studio to record lectures. The recordings will be sent to each center.

Students will also be able to access live streaming of mentoring and tutorial sessions via live conferencing system such as Zoom and social media site, Facebook.

Mr Malaibe added that the studio will cut down on costs for the open college.

Students studying through distance education will be presented flash drives to assess the multimedia teaching materials.
