The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched its 2014 Global Village Festival today in Port Moresby.

The festival’s theme is ‘Learning to Live Together Better’ and will coincide with the World Day for Cultural Diversity on May 21st. It will involve local and international residents, and also Government and Non-Government stakeholders.

The 2014 Global Village Festival was announced today at a media conference organized by UNESCO.

The festival will commence on the 21st to the 24th of May.

The goal of the event is to create dialogue for increasing cultural understanding and also create opportunity for interaction between individuals and groups.

PNG National Commission for UNESCO Secretary General, Yori Yei, said that the timing is short for the organizing of the event. Regardless of that, his organization is working hard to meet the deadline.

He also mentioned that the participants will be both local and international.

The location for the festival will be in Port Moresby however the venue is yet to be confirmed.

UNESCO has designed the Global Village Festival as an intervention to promote cultural diversity.

The festival is a cluster of strategic activities including international exhibition, cultural performances and also an international ball. International residents in PNG, through their embassies are invited to partake in the festival.
