Two Cars Crash at Traffic Light Stop

Two vehicles collided at a traffic light intersection in downtown Port Moresby this afternoon (18/06/17).

There were no casualties reported but one person suffered injuries to his head.

Witnesses whom are frequent travellers on the intersection said the traffic lights are to be blamed for the accident.

Almost 30 minutes after the crash Traffic Police arrived on the scene.

Witnesses said that a Toyota Land Cruiser was making a right turn at the intersection when a 25-seater bus approaching from its left collided with it; hurtling the land cruiser into a pole.

By the time EMTV News arrived only a handful of the passengers who had been on the bus now stood on the sidewalk; none of them injured.

One of the passengers in the other car however, appeared to have suffered substantial injuries to his head.

Both drivers fled the scene soon after the crash.

According to witnesses the traffic lights, like every other weekend, were not working.

One of the witnesses said over an hour before the accident; two other vehicles narrowly escaped a similar fate.

Pedestrians who frequent the area are appealing to traffic authorities not to switch off the traffic lights during the weekend as it has become a high risk area for accidents.
