Walt Disney Co Chief Bob Iger has announced through its official website (d23.com) that the Toy Story trilogy is getting one more instalment.
Iger revealed this in Disney’s third quarter earnings call that Woody, Buzz and the gang are back for a fourth instalment set to be released on 16 June 2017.
The announcement has shocked fans and critics and is causing so much speculation online.
Considering the thrill and heavy suspense embedded in Toy Story 3’s plot with a beautiful tear-jerking ending, the online speculation is expected.
Toy Story 3 was also the first animated movie to break world records grossing over $1 billion in 2010.
The idea of the plot for the fourth film was conceived by Pixar’s brain child, John Lasseter who directed ‘Toy Story’ and he returns to the director’s chair to excite fans once more.
To calm the critics and speculators, he said in statement, “We love these characters so much, they are like family to us, we don’t want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what’s gone before.”
“Toy story 3 ended Woody and Buzz’s story so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another Toy Story movie. But when Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie – and I wanted to direct it myself.”
