Sports Minister, Justin Tkatchenko, will be joining our athletes and officials in Glasgow, Ireland, for the Commonwealth Games.
The Sports Olympic Committee’s Secretary General, Auvita Rapilla and Sir John Dawanicura officially farewelled the Minister, who was accompanied by his wife.
Within his itinerary, Minister Tkatchenko will be visiting all 10 events that our athletes will be participating.
He will also be observing how the Team in Scotland has organized, managing and administering the 14-days of competition.
Minister will also be attending a Sports Ministers Meeting.
Among the topics to be discussed are youth in sports and using sports for development.
And thanked Prime Minister, Peter O&rsquO’Neill for creating an incentive for our athletes that any athlete or team who win a medal in this Commonwealth Games, will be awarded with Gold Medal: K100,000, Silver: K50,000, and Bronze: K25,000.
Sir John Dawanicura took the opportunity to commend the family and friends and support the athletes have received during their preparations leading up to their departure.
Applauding the government, for supporting an incentive to drive our athletes’ performance, and the efforts of embracing sports as a tool for development.
All 93 Athletes and 44 officially have settled in Glasgow and are preparing for the opening ceremony.
Sir John encourages the country to get behind and support our athletes.
This will give them the experience and exposure to the level of competition that they will face in the Pacific Games next year.
