Three Injured During Good Friday Procession

The procession of the Station of the Cross in Port Moresby was interrupted with a hit and run vehicle, injuring three people.

Two males and a female were severely injured and are currently receiving treatment at Port Moresby General Hospital.

Attempts by police to capture the driver, was unsuccessful.

According to the Boroko Traffic and Accident squad, the vehicle driver is believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

He was speeding behind the faithful who were walking the Station of the Cross, expecting them to clear the road, and for him to pass through.

According to eyewitnesses, a male in his late 50s was unfortunate to be the first victim.

Peter and his wife, Maron, and their two children were feet away from the first victim.

They were not prepared for what had happened, having in mind that the traffic unit was controlling pedestrians and vehicles.

The Traffic and Accident unit’said the driver must have become conscious when he hit the second male and the female.

He then drove away quickly.

Police chased the vehicle, but could not catch him. They managed to get his registration plate number.
