Teperoi Community in Central Bougainville Happy With Relocation

by Fabian Hakalits – EM TV News, Buka

The Saint Patrick’s Teperoi Primary School in Wakunai, Central Bougainville, will finally be relocated to higher ground. This follows numerous issues which have been caused due to rising sea waters.

Parents and citizens have expressed their happiness with the decision, thanking the national airport’s corporation for their assistance in facilitating the move.

According to relocation project Chairman Clement Vavetauvi, there are plans now in place to raise funds for the relocation of the school.

Teachers told EMTV News that high tide has continually disrupted classes, fearing the school might indeed be washed away.

With this initiative, this story will change from fear into joy, said student, Anastacia Kearei, and female leader, Margaret Wabe.

According to National Airports Corporation Acting Managing Director, Joseph Tupiri, the project will cost around K5 million in total.

Appeals have been made to corporate organisations to show their support in fundraising activities in order to drive this initiative.
