Team PNG Analyse Games Success

By Shane Saroya – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee has conducted a workshop to review the performance of team PNG and the Operations of the PNG Olympic Committee and its role in the support of Team PNG, during the recently held Pacific Games in Port Moresby.

Though PNG finished first on the medal telly, it does not mean the end of the Games, and the workshop provided some insight into the challenges faced by Team PNG leading to and during the Games. These points will be addressed for better preparations.

PNG OC Secretary General Auvita Rapilla said, the aim of the workshop was to identify areas where improvements are needed and find ways to deal with them in the future.

Rapilla said, PNG has done well at home but the challenge is to try and improve PNG’s performance and win the Pacific Games overseas as well.

Analysing PNG’s performance and the factors that contributed, will help the PNGOC ensure Team PNG’s success in the future Games, Rapilla, said.

Being successful does not mean that everything is perfect and PNGOC understands this as it continues to strive for the best for its athletes.

Team PNG Chef de Mission for the 2015 Pacific Games, Richard Kassman, said the success of team PNG this year was because of the great effort that everyone put in as well as the unprecedented support from the government, sponsors and other stakeholders as well as the people.

Kassman said, PNG must maintain this working relationship in order for it to be just as successful in the future Games.

The workshop was attended by mixtures of coaches, managers, General Team Management and President of National Federation from individual and team sports.

PNGOC will also review recommendations that come out of the reports from all the coaches and managers of team PNG.

The workshop was the first in a series of exercise that are being conducted by PNGOC which will ultimately contribute to the review of the organisation’s 2011 – 2015 Strategic Plans.

Over the coming months the PNGOC will be engaging with its various stakeholders for input into the overall strategic direction of the organisation.
