Cricket in Papua New Guinea is set to further its mark across the country, with the ITI Port Moresby Cricket Association to host the first ever T20 Big Bash.
The timing is impeccable, with the recent return of the PNG Barramundis from Ireland after a mixed T20 World Cup qualifying performance, and members from the side looking to further their experience in this dynamic form of the game.
The competition will commence on August 8, with the competition to continue through until the finals take place in early September.
Port Moresby cricketing powerhouses Raukele will be among 24 teams competing for the title, with interest levels surrounding the sport at an all time high. This is especially the case for those teams who will travel from outside the capital to compete, all of which will be looking to showcase their talent to the masses here in Moresby.
And because of its size, tournament organisers have scheduled matches to be played in 11 different locations, with Fisherman’s Island off the coast of Port Moresby to even host matches throughout the tournament.
Four pools have been created, with 69 matches to be staged prior to us finding our finalists. Tournament Organiser and former PNG International Charles Amini Snr is buoyed by the enthusiastic response and can’t wait for the competition to commence.
