by Marie Kauna – EMTV Online, Port Moresby

A media programme project initiated by the Pacific Cooperation Foundation will run a two-week media internship in New Zealand.

The internship will take place between June 27- July 10.

The development of the media programme was one of the Pacific Cooperation Foundation’s projects to enhance business and trade opportunities in the Pacific region.

With a focus on creating awareness enhancing and promoting business and trade in the region, the program was developed for two recipients; the New Zealand journalism and media graduates and the Pacific Island journalism and media graduates.

During the internship, New Zealand’s top journalists from various media organisations including TV, radio and print media, to help them understand the different media forms, will monitor participants.

Each participant will be given the opportunity to bring to discussion issues they encounter to help create a common understanding of the regional issues by all.

The participants will be trained with new skills and ideas to help them deliver better quality media services, as well as improve the level and quality of media exposure in the region.

According to PCF’s website, successful applicants include five students from journalism and media tertiary institutions in New Zealand and the Pacific.

These includes Anuja Nadkarni an honours students at AUT University, Julie Isles from Massey University School of Journalism, Francis Vaigalepa from the National University of Samoa, Sonal Singh from the University of South Pacific and Nadia Marai from the University of Papua New Guinea.

The successful applicants will leave their home countries and travel to New Zealand on June 26 to be part of the media internship.
