Australian Medical Ship Youth With A Mission (YWAM) has received another financial support from Steamships Coastal Shipping to continue its outreach programs in the country.
A cheque of four hundred thousand was presented to YWAM staff recently in Port Moresby.
Steamships General Manager Corporate Affairs, David Toua said Steamships continues to assist YWAM because of the service it provides to the people in rural areas.
Mr Toua said the rural areas are in need of basic health services and YWAM has been to places where the villagers have to walk or paddle a long distance just to seek medical attention. YWAM’s theme is ‘I want to live’ and that is exactly what the people in rural areas are crying out for. They want basic health services so they can live and YWAM’s outreach program enables them to have that service,” Mr Toua said.
People in Gulf, Western Province and Northern Province were visited and provided a variety of health services.
Since 2012 Steamships has been supporting and funding YWAM to deliver health services to rural PNG.
