Southern 9s to Kick Off

By Jaylee Sapias – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

The Southern Rugby 9s tournament kicks off this Sunday, December 13 at the Sir John Guise Stadium.

The competition, formerly known as the Central 9s, is into its 13th year, and has grown in numbers since it was first launched. This year’s tournament will see 60 teams taking part.

The Southern Region has produced some of PNG’s best in rugby league, filtering players through to the PNG Kumuls jersey.

Tournament Director, Solomon Ravu, said the week-long tournament will provide an avenue to expose and scout raw talent from within the region.

While draws are yet to be released, kick off is set for this Sunday.
