More School Inspectors Needed

More school inspectors are needed to thoroughly inspect the progress of schools in the country, says Nuku MP, Joe Sungi.

He directed this comment during question time in parliament today to Education Minister, Nick Kuman.

Sungi said there have been a limited number of school inspectors (formerly standards officers) to inspect schools in his electorate.

His statement comes after timely inspections on the progress of elementary, primary and high schools, especially Nuku High School.

Responding to Sungi’s questions, Minister Kuman said this is because there are fewer school inspectors compared to the number of schools throughout the country.

Minister Kuman said the 89 school inspectors cannot facilitate inspection across all schools in the country.

He added that housing and mobility is also a problem for school inspectors saying they were given only K2,500 to operate.

The Education Minister responded that taking into consideration his department will increase school inspectors by 89 personnel.
