Member for Morobe’s Kabwum district, Bob Dadae, and Nawaeb’s district, Gisuwat Siniwin, say they will incorporate their DSIP funds to build more roads.
The two MP’s have maintained their stand to unite and build a new highway that will link the isolated areas of Kawbwum, Nawaeb and Finschafen with Lae city.
Gisuwat Siniwin and Bob Dadae share a common thing; that is their districts have limited access to roads.
Transportation means into the districts is only done by foot or by small airplanes.
This has led to the districts setting aside a huge portion of their district budget to go towards freight costs alone.
However, Nawaeb and Kabwum districts remain two of the most highly populated districts in Morobe.
They are also two of the largest contributors of Morobe’s organic coffee.
The two MPs have announced their intentions to band together to invest in building new roads into the area.
This also comes following the revival of the national works department, with a task of monitoring road works carried out by government contracts issued to private contractors.
The proposed road network, which will cost about K600 million, has been brought to the cabinet. This will link Nawaeb, Kabwum and Finschhafen districts, with Lae city.
