Oil Production in PNG

This documentary provides historical background of the oil industry in PNG and the scope of its current operations. The documentary also looks at how Oil Search as the nation’s only oil producer at present is conducting its activities in the Southern Highlands.

The Government is making a billion kina investment to host the Games, in which most of the infrastructure that are to be built, will continue to be used for events after the 2015 Pacific Games.

This episode features the Lloyd Robson Oval, which will be reconstructed into a National Sports Stadium to host matches for national and international events such as the upcoming 2015 Games. It was fully demolished last week, officiated by Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, other senior members of parliament and business executives.

Vast business and employment opportunities are expected to be available when the 2015 Pacific Games are held in PNG. Visitor numbers are also expected to soar at the time.

There are predictions that there will be spikes in certain sectors of the PNG economy when the Games are actually held, particularly in the services sector. With a lot of construction activity already underway in the preparation of venues for the Games, the construction sector is certainly on the rise with more expected to come in the next 18 months.

The episode also features Prime Minister Peter O’Neill launching a new National Working Group last week, aimed at encouraging public-private sector dialogue. The O’Neill-Dion Government values the private sector as an integral part of contributing to PNG’s economy.
