Papua New Guinean activist Noel Anjo’s planned rally to the Parliament House to petition the government on the issues on police brutality and the recent events in the police department was stopped this morning by rogue police officers.
Mr Anjo said he was surrounded by 15 police vehicles at the Unagi Oval and ordered not to protest against the Prime Minister and the police department. In the event, Mr Anjo’s loudspeaker was destroyed plus wires to the microphone cut off. Mr Anjo said the police officers were drunk.
Meanwhile NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa told EM TV News that his office and office of the Police Commissioner were aware of the rally.
Mr Bawa said he ordered the NCD Police to monitor the rally and keep it under confines of the law if anything happened. However, Mr Bawa said he will not comment on the alleged drunk officers’ actions this morning.
Furthermore, Mr Anjo said the incident this morning will not stop him to carry out his duty to the people of the country.
