An amount of K500 thousand is needed to do initial studies for the proposed township of Mondo in the Goilala district of Central Province.
Due to its geographical location, Mondo will serve as the mining township of the Tolukuma Gold Mine.
Goilala MP, Daniel Mona visited Mondo last week to announce the government’s commitment in building this proposed township.
The member flew into Mondo last Tuesday, and was welcomed by a waiting crowd.
The fact that a township cannot be built within Tolukuma due to its difficult geographical setting makes Mondo the next option where a town is proposed to be erected.
For years, people have been walking to Tapini station or even to Port Moresby to reach government services.
The member, Daniel Mona, has seen the need for a township to service the population, hence the proposal for this new town.
Initial works including grass cutting and land clearing have started at Mondo, however; a proper feasibility study is needed to be carried out.
During the visit the member announced the K30 million, Tolukuma to Port Moresby road project, which is a National project to be funded over a 5 year period.
Apart from Mondo. Mr. Mona also visited Fane and Tolukuma to pay locals engaged in community projects. More than K50 thousand was paid out during that visit.
The member, through the district administration, is now drawing up a proposal of K500 thousand to submit for funding for the Mondo Township feasibility study.
