Project Fees Deferred

By Quinton Alomp – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The Education Department’s, Acting Secretary, Dr Uke Kombra, has issued a directive to all schools not to collect project fees.

Dr Kombra said project fees will be deferred until the National Executive Council (NEC) meets and deliberates on the issue.

His announcement came just 24 hours before the 2016 academic year begins.

Despite an advertorial in one of the dailies last Friday informing schools to collect project fees, the Acting Secretary this afternoon retracted that announcement.

“Until a NEC decision is made, no school is to charge and collect any project fee,” Dr Kombra said.

Some schools have misunderstood the tuition fee free policy and as a result they are charging parents school fees and project fees to enrol their children.

Students are encouraged to start enrolment today.
