Primary Schools Celebrating True Champions

Equal Playing Field (EPF), in partnership with Bavaroko and Coronation Primary Schools, will be celebrating the completion of their eight-week respectful relationship project.

Close to 250 students enrolled in Grade Seven from the two schools are going to be the fourth batch of over 4,000 students across the next three years to complete the Australian Aid funded Equal Playing Field for Schools Program (EPF4S).

The events will see the presentation of the Most Respectful Team award as well as the True Champion award given to a select few individuals that displayed outstanding respectful behaviour, as voted by their peers.

The EPF4S Program is an innovative respectful relationship education program that promotes the themes of healthy relationships, understanding violence and abuse, gender equality, empathy and communication, consent and personal boundaries, support networks and child protection, among others. It creatively weaves these concepts into a mixed-gender sporting competition.

EPF is a not-for-profit organisation that uses sport of all kinds to promote gender equality and end violence against women and girls. Equal Playing Field’s vision is for ‘safe homes, happy families, strong communities’.

EPF is founded on the belief that violence against women is preventable and that open and honest discussions about gender equality and respectful relationships during adolescence have the power to change the attitudes and behaviors that allow violence against women to occur.

While EPF programs and advocacy initiatives reach men, women, boys and girls, the organisation has a specific focus on working with men and boys to define healthy, positive and non-violent expressions of masculinity.

EPF is funded under the Australian government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) in partnership with Plan International.
