Powerlifting Trials Begin

by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Team PNG began their powerlifting trials in Port Moresby today.

The trial will see over 47 powerlifters compete in three days of competition to impress their coaches and selectors for the Pacific Games.

Powerlifters from NCD faced strong competition from Morobe and Western Highlands lifters.

The trials featured many new talents, identified from last year’s PNG games. The new lifters have proven they will be a force to be reckoned with, giving more experienced lifters strong competition.

The powerlifters have already begun training in preparation for the Games in July, and Robby is confident that the lifters will prove to be strong competitors at the Games.

With over 30 medals up for grabs, Team PNG Powerlifting has set their sights on winning medals in the 59 and 66 kilogram divisions for men and 47, 52 and 57 kilogram division in women’s.
