Popondetta is a town struggling to cope with constant power blackouts. This has affected residents and business houses on a daily basis.
There seems to be no end in sight for the frequent blackouts in Popondetta.
What is frustrating is that the people are left in the dark as to what the actual cause of the problem is, with only speculation in the air that it could be a result of any number of reasons such as fuel shortages.
But the Chief Executive Officer of PNG Power has finally shed some light on this ongoing problem. Mr. Tangit, says it is a technical issue with the transformers in the province. He says it may take months to have them replaced to achieve reliability.
As a capital intensive business, PNG Power is constantly trying to deliver projects that will relieve pressure on the system.
To do this, sacrifices have to be made to achieve that level of reliability and it may take 2 to 3 years, he says.
For now the people in Popondetta will have to wait and see whether PNG Power will deliver a solution for their electricity problem.
