POMGEN Scale Down Operations

The surge in covid-19 cases has put a strain on hospitals to shut down departments.

PNG’s largest referral health facility, Port Moresby General Hospital has begun scaling down its services, prioritizing only clinical health services.

In a circular released, Consultation and Gynecology will be closed for 2 weeks and only Emergency surgeries will be performed.

Other services will remain open but with strict measures and control on number of patients.

As covid-19 cases increases, the health authority is seeking assistance to open the Taurama Aquatic Centre to be used for testing.

Assistance has also been sought from St John Ambulance to make the Aquatic Centre an isolation facility. This comes as the Rita Flynn testing facility is appearing to have long queue of patients waiting to be tested.
