By Quinton Alomp – EM TV, Port Moresby

The casual employees of Port Moresby General Hospital who went on strike last week over unpaid fortnightly salaries have returned to work.

Their wages have been sorted out today but long-serving members are still not satisfied, after not receiving their Christmas bonus nor their travel warrants.

On Christmas Day, the casual workers refused to carry out any duties. Rubbish in the dining room, patients’ wards and laundry materials were mounting.

They went on strike because their fortnightly salaries were not being paid and that their families going hungry during Christmas.

After their wages being sorted out today, they returned to work.

However, long-serving members are still not satisfied after learning that their outstanding claims were not paid out and they missed out on any Christmas bonuses.

They request the Health Minister, Michael Malabag to seriously look into their working conditions and address some issues surrounding their welfare.
