Polye Calls for Skilling of PNG’s Population

By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV, Port Moresby

Opposition leader, Don Polye says the government should not blame population growth or try control it, but should put more emphasis on skilling Papua New Guinea’s next generation.

Polye says, skilling Papua New Guinean’s will transform the country’s economy, and see more inclusive participation by ordinary people.

He admitted the trend of the increasing drop-outs in PNG’s education system and says the option to minimise that has not been tapped by the current government. Mr Polye wants the government to think differently.

“The government is not thinking the right way to develop options to harness and balance population with economy growth”, Polye said.

The Opposition leader says, the government should not waste millions on decorative infrastructures but invest on long lasting life skills that will transform PNG’s population and economy.

“Building human resource through skills development will see the economy grow with the people”.

He added that skilling the next generation is crucial for PNG’s economic growth.
