C8 Freight Works PNG Ltd Waiting for Payments to Release Containers

By Vasinatta Yama – EM TV, Port Moresby

For the second time this morning, armed police personnel in Port Moresby went to C8 Freight Works PNG Limited, a local freight company, and demanded them to release freight containers belonging to a mobile phone company.

A total of 14 containers containing transmission towers were locked at C8 Freight Works since June last year.

They could not release it as they are yet to receive logistic payments from Mirigini Limited, the contractor in charge of doing the mobile phone company’s logistics work.

A Mirigini Company Limited spokesperson said they could not even pay C8 Freight Works because they did not get their payment from the mobile phone company.

The spokesperson said the mobile phone company owes them more than a million kina. They have not paid them since October last year.

As a result, in December they laid off 200 employees nation-wide.

The C8 freight company will release the containers once the payment is settled.
