Keeping to the APEC economies mandate of prioritizing gender inclusion; the Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy working group met yesterday (May 15) as part of the APEC Senior Officials Meeting 2 (SOM2) and related meetings.
The goal of the working group is to advance the economic integration of women in the APEC region for the benefit of all members. Gender inclusion and women’s economic empowerment is given a place on centre stage at the meetings.
The PPWE, chaired by Frederick Tamarua, began the 2 day workshop; with the purpose of building and promoting workplace health, safety and inclusivity to enhance women economic participation and productivity.
In a largely patriarchal society such as Papua New Guinea, this is a positive step towards women’s economic integration in the region.
