Drunk Policemen on duty have shot dead a twelve year old girl while her mther sustained bullet wounds on her back.
The incident is reported to have happened two weeks ago at Waigani inthe Nation’s Capital.
Family members of mther and daughter staged a peaceful demonstration atthe Beroko Police Station on Thursday and presented a petition tothe police hierarchy to investigate. They also demanded that action must be taken against those responsible.
The petition called for police to immediately engage in communication withthe family, meet all funeral expenses, pay a bel kol amount of K50,000 and immediate arrest of officers on duty onthe night of 19th April.
That nightthe family was driving in a private vehicle towards Gerehu when police in a ten-seater vehicle with registration number ZPD 071 shot atthem atthe Waigani Traffic Lights.
Upon learning ofthe child’s death,the family pulled over atthe bus stop next to Vision City Mega Mall opposite Sir John Guise stadium when police fired again atthem woundingthe mther.
This is part ofthe ordeal that unfoldedthereafter.
The night of 19th of April, will be remembered for this family from Ialibu inthe Southern Highlands Province. They have now lost trust inthe work ofthe police force.
They saythey will not repatriatethe body untilthey get a response fromthe police hierarchy.
NCD Superintendent for Operations, ChiefInspector Ndranou Perou confirmed receivingthe petition on Thursday and assured relativesthey will ensure rogue officers are arrested and charged once all investigations are completed.
