PNGDF Soldiers Granted Bail

By Theckla Gunga – EM TV News, Port Moresby

Bail has been granted by the Waigani National Court on two PNGDF soldiers who were recently arrested and charged for Mutiny.

Peter Perari and Philip Kiak are now out on a K2,000 bail. They are part of the 11 soldiers that were also charged for Mutiny in December, last year.

Judge Allan David ruled in the soldier’s favour after lawyer representing the state made no objections to the bail application.

The court was adjourned for ten minutes and lawyers from both parties discussed the bail conditions.

The ten bail conditions include, the soldiers must remain in the National Capital District until their case is over and they cannot commit another offence.

These soldiers were deployed to the Highlands in 2015, for operation and were accused of misconduct while on duty.

The matter was first mentioned in January this year and bail was granted for the first 11. It is now undergoing a directions hearing at the Waigani National Court.
