PNGDF Remain Silent over Brutal Bashing of Student

by Mickey Kavera – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The student brutally bashed by Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) soldiers over the weekend’s condition remains critical.

Relatives of the victim are calling on PNGDF hierarchy to not remain silent over the incident.

Jeremiah Yinu still remains in a coma, showing no signs of improvement.

His injuries were caused by PNGDF soldiers over the weekend during the Kilakila Secondary School Cultural show.

Relatives and eye-witnesses have identified three soldiers who are said to have inflicted these injuries.

Police are fully aware and are awaiting a full medical report to lay appropriate charges on the suspects.

A relative of the victim told EMTV News that the PNGDF have not informed them on their course of action as yet.

Commander of the PNGDF, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo, condemned the actions of the soldiers.

He said those soldiers involved will be dealt with through the appropriate legal channels.

But relatives of the victim say that they don’t want Jeremiah’s case to become one of the many pending cases of the PNGDF.

All they want is justice, calling on the PNGDF hierarchy to walk the walk and to no longer be lenient.
