The Papua New Guinea Women In Business has applauded the Government‘s move in appointment a women as the Minister for Higher Education.
Director Janet Sape says, this shows the confident the government has in the women to lead the country.
It is an important portfolio and believes that Mrs. Delilah Gore is the right person for the job.
The appointment of Sohe MP Delilah Gore as the Higher Education Minister is a boost for women empowerment in Papua New Guinea.
Director of Papua New Guinea Women in Business Janet Sape says this is an indication that the government is serious to see women take on leadership roles.
Mrs. Sape called on women throughout the country, to rise to the challenge and not be complacent.
She says opportunities are being created by government in all sectors of the economy to address women’s welfare.
She also raised concern about the high rates of charges imposed on ordinary Papua New Guineans by commercial banks.
She commended the government’s initiative to carry out a nationwide survey on it.
The Papua New Guinea Women in Business is working closely with the government and the Central Bank to acquire its license to operate as a microfinance institution.
Mrs. Sape says the office space is already established with a total of 2o staff and is growing.
She is optimistic about the future of PNGWiB.
She said, once set up, it will allow ordinary Papua New Guineans to set up bank accounts with low rates to encourage more participation in the economy.
