Papua New Guinea will support Indonesia’s bid to be an associate member of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.
This will allow the 11 million Melanesians in Indonesia to take part in trade, cultural and sporting activities.
This was one of the outcomes from the two-day official visit by Indonesian President, Joko Widodo, to PNG.
Two memorandums of agreements were signed between the two countries, one to combat transnational crimes and the other for Human resource in the Energy sector.
In a business breakfast this morning attended by Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, the Indonesian president welcomed more economic and trade corporation between the two nations.
He pointed out the opportunities in infrastructure and energy.
His counterpart invited the PNG business community to take part in the upcoming Indonesia Trade Exhibition.
After a closed door bilateral meeting between the two leaders, Prime Minister O’Neill said the meeting was significant in strengthening a relationship that was established 40 years ago.
The President and his entourage left the country this afternoon.
