Papua New Guinea Billiards and Snooker Association referee to the World Snooker championships in Bangalore, India, Jonathan Cavanagh has been rated among the top ten snooker referees in the world.
An email from Oceania Billiards and Snooker Federation president, Barrie Jones says Cavanagh’s performance could get him to officiate a women’s semi-final match this weekend.
Jones said Cavanagh, a class three referee, has been graded ninth out of forty referees at the world championships ahead of some experienced grades two and one referees.
Cavanagh’s travel to India was made possible by Sport Minister Justin Tkatchenko, with funding from the Sport Enhancement program.
Cavanagh returns next Tuesday after the World Titles contested by men, women and masters conclude on Sunday.
