The project for formulation of the Ramu System Power Development Master Plan and the Lae area Distribution Network Improvement Plan was revealed today in Port Moresby.
Part of PNG Power Limited’s (PPL) 15 year development plan, the report highlighted the chronic problems faced by PPL’s operations around the country.
The plan was presented in a report by Japanese consultantcy company, NEWJEC, and was witnessed by key stakeholders including newly appointed Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Chief Representative, Takashi Toyama.
“I strongly believe the master plan will be a guide to efficiently and effectively upgrade and expand the existing Ramu system to accommodate the future demands,” Toyama said.
PPL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer, Martin Bigiglan, said for the last 30 years PPL has done little to upgrade its facilities.
“This master plan will help us (PPL) to see what we can do to improve our services,” Bigiglan said.
Meanwhile, Lae city’s power distribution network is set to be upgraded soon.
“Lae is a growing city with only one main electricity line from the Ramu system, and we will have to upgrade it’soon to cater for the population,” Bigiglan said.
