PNG muscians to be recognized

The music industry of Papua New Guinea must be supported with musicians given recognition.

General Manager for PNGFM Limited, Adrian Au echoed this at the Digicel YUMIFM Music Awards over the weekend in Port Moresby.

He said PNG music could only be marketed domestically and internationally if musicians are promoted.

Seventeen award categories were presented at the Digicel YUMI FM Music Awards at the Port Moresby Country Club.

The cheering crowd was kept awake with their very best hits that are always aired, and this time, they were able to hear it from the musicians’ natural voices.

The Album of the Year, was scooped by Jokema after four of his songs remained on the YUMI FM music chart.

Newly formed band, Logic Crew walked away with the Newest Group of the Year and also the Longest Charting Song with their hit song Meri Morobe.

As the saying goes, ‘like father like son’, the crowd went wild, when Leonard Kania Senior and Leonard Kania Junior,  belted the songs, on the stage.

Kania Senior’s ‘Miss Yu Babe’ received two awards, the Song of the Year, and Male Artists of the Year while Kania Junior won the Rookie of the Year with the hit song, Sunamist Lewa.

Paeva, Black black and Rinata added feature of this year’s show with the island favourite ‘Isa Nogu Lewa’.

Meanwhile the return of Quakes band, led by King of the Pacific Music Patti Potts Doi with their new release ‘Akeao’, brought back memories of the past.
