PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has responded strongly to fresh comments made by Chairman of PNG Sustainable Development Program, Sir Mekere Morauta, over compensation payments to the people of Western Province.
Sir Mekere said, there was a big worry if there was no financial support for the processing of CMCA compensation payments.
Mr O’Neill described Sir Mekere’s comments as: “grandstanding from Sir Mekere and his cohorts who represent nobody, except foreign interest, and they continue to mislead the people.”
Mr O’Neill said: “The only reason this is happening, is because the legal action Sir Mekere has initiated, is before the courts here in Papua New Guinea and Singapore.
“The sooner Sir Mekere comes to that realization that he has to work with duly-mandated government, the better it will be for our people.
“We are prepared to assist our people as and when these unnecessary court cases are removed. We are confident that people will get better outcomes as a result of our intervention,” Mr O’Neill said.
