PNG Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has expressed his sympathy to the University of Papua New Guinea students and members of the public injured yesterday.
Mr O’Neill said the shootings were not the intent of the Government, and has urged all students at UPNG to stop their boycott, and resume classes.
Mr O’Neill further stated the shootings are now before the police for investigations, including a commission of inquiry to look into the matter.
“I would like to take this opportunity to express our sympathies to the students and public that received injuries yesterday,”
Mr O’Neill said the confrontation yesterday could’ve been easily avoided and it was unnecessary.
He also said the Government will work with the UPNG administration to see the 2016 Academic year not cancelled.
