Plans to Improve Law & Order Situation in Northern Province

Police in Northern Province have created strategies to clamp down  on law and order problems.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector Lincoln Gerari told EMTV News, that they have identified four factors that were affecting the  province’s law and order situation.

These are drug and alcohol abuse, land disputes and sorcery accusations.

The Provincial Police Commander since he took office early this year gives an overview of plans to improve the situation for Northern Province.

“As a result of the drug, we have established a drug squad, the highway patrol and the sea police. They are doing a very marvellous job. So far the results indicate, that there is work done on those areas,”

“Sea piracy has been very quiet, from June up until now. For drug squad, the police personnel have been on their toes, going right into the villages in remote areas, and uprooting marijuana plants. We have recently launched the highway patrol and the police personnel are frequenting the highway which has also shown that people are now listening,” said Gerari.

Northern Province shares borders with Morobe, Central and Milne Bay.The task of policing is immense.

80 police personnel are divided into different units supported by the auxiliary, reserves and CBCs.

“My police are doing what they can to ensure there is law and order maintained in the communities,” he said.

Gerari says that they have established their communication system, with the local communities to ensure, crimes are reported directly to police using mobile phones, on a daily basis.

“Whenever they contact, I contact the OIC for CID, traffic and others, so they can attend,”

Gerari has warned communities harbouring criminals to stop such practices as they will face the full brunt of the law.
