Plans for 9 Mile Sub-city to Begin in 2019

By Staycey Yalo – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Nine Mile residents in Port Moresby’s North East will soon have access to more vital services after local MP, John Kaupa, announced his plans to construct a sub-city.

Kaupa’s plan to construct the sub-city, just before the cemetery, will follow his initiative to upgrade the Morobe Block settlement at 9 Mile.

Residents of the 9 Mile area, especially at the Morobe Block settlement, have been living without proper water supply and electricity for years. Many are employed in the formal sector, and the unfairness of service delivery has been a burden they have learned to live with.

The residents of Morobe Block aired their concerns to local MP John Kaupa recently during his visit to the area to receive the president’s proposal for proper land titles during the rollout of Kaupa’s urbanisation program later this month.

MP Kaupa advised the residents of Morobe Block to be supportive with plans to upgrade the settlement, in order to realise their cry for vital services.

The MP also announced his plans to construct a sub-city for the growing 9 Mile population. This plan is expected to begin next year where basic services of health care, banking, police, sporting facility and a shopping mall will be constructed just before the open area next to the cemetery.
