Parliament to Act on Multi Drug Resistance TB

Oro Governor, Gary Juffa said serious concerns surroundthe spread of TBrand thatthe epidemic may be worse than HIV and AIDS.  He wanted to know whatthe Health department is doing about it.

Health Minister Michael Malabagsaid his department is aware ofthe issue at hand.

The department has spoken to The Global Fund for AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis, andtheWorld Health Organization to increase awareness exercises and strenthen existing TBeprograms inthe country.

Mr Malabag emphasized that TBepatients must commit totheir treatment. This way,they can avoidthe Multi-Drug resistant TBe

The government has fully subsidizedthe treatment for TBepatients as measure to make treatment free and available for patients.

Meantime, Minister Malabag has called for the establishment of a pharmaceutical authority to regulate and monitor medical drugs enteringthe country.

This is because counterfeit medicine is being sold in unauthorized shops and onthe street without proper prescriptions by a medical professional, orthe health department.
