Pacific Games: Swim Teams Already Eyeing Medals

by Godwin Eki – Port Moresby

PNG’s swimming star Ryan Pini was caught on camera, training with the rest of his fellow swimmers at the Taurama Aquatic Center in preparations for the games.

Although Ryan won five gold medals at the last Pacific Games in 2011, this will be PNG’s chance to pocket more medals in swimming, especially to steal from their rivalry, New Caledonia.

Also present with the team, at training was Ana-Liza Mopio-Jane to once again represent her country in this Pacific Games.

Meanwhile, Team Fiji Swimmers were also at the Taurama Aquatic Center to gear up for the games. Head Coach, Sharon Smith, says she’s confident the team will do well, as that’s what they are here to do.

Accompanying the PNG swim team, also at the Taurama Aquatic Centre, were the Fijian swimmers, with head Coach Sharon Smith.

All swimming teams are now ready to challenge each other, especially New Caledonia, who won the most medals at the last Games, and were also winners of the 2011 Pacific Games.

Swimming will kick off on Monday with many already eyeing more medals.
