One Man Dead, Relatives Burn Down Houses

Police in Popondetta are investigating the death of a man, who was severely wounded, to what has been termed as a dispute over a land.

The deceased was identified as John Francis Waiwa.

Northern Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector, Lincoln Gerari told EMTV News in Popondetta that this murder case is part of a string of other recent criminal cases that have unfolded in Northern Province recently.

“I personally came and attended to this incident. The deceased was walking home and without any reason, the suspect who also from the same village, got a spear, and just wounded him to death,”

“The spear then penetrated into his body that might have caused damages to one of his organs. The body is now at the Popondetta general Hospital Morgue awaiting post mortem,”

Gerari said that the deceased family retaliated by burning down six houses and other properties in the village, where the suspect resides.

“They also injured one of the suspect’s relatives. At this time, I have no information whether he is dead or alive,” he said.

What the family wants is for law to take its course.

The sister of the deceased, Betty Waiwa told EMTV News, that they were saddened by the death of their brother.

She said that the suspect from their same clan had ongoing arguments with her late brother, over land issues.

“Our brother has gone. We the families want law and order to deal with this,”

Meanwhile, the suspect has surrendered to police.
