Oil Search Provides Drought Relief Assistance

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

Oil Search Limited has initiated a major drought relief initiative.

It aims to provide much needed supplies of food, water and medicine to villages, within the company’s project areas of Southern Highlands, Hela and Gulf provinces.

The dry spell and El Nino effect has signalled for immediate special attention in terms of relief assistance, with the Highlands provinces among the worst affected.

Oil Search Limited is one company that has come to the rescue, providing relief assistance to villages living within the company’s project areas in Southern Highlands, Hela and Gulf provinces.

The Oil Search drought initiative will cover 94 villages, with over  27,000 people in these three provinces.

Drought relief efforts began in Kutubu villages of Kaipu and Sisibia yesterday, with rice distribution, tinned fish and noodles.

Despite fall in oil prices, Oil Search remains committed, putting substantial resources into the drought relief effort, for humanitarian assistance.

Oil Search is also working with the National Disaster Centre to ensure coordination and sustained water supply and provisions into affected areas.

For villagers of Kaipu and Sisibia, the relief assistance is a blessing in their time of need, as water sources and food supplies have dried up. The distribution efforts will continue in Southern Highlands, Hela and Gulf provinces in the coming weeks.
