Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, announced road infrastructure, electricity and a provincial hospital for Hela during his visit to the province this week.
He announced the sealing of Komo to Mendi Road, handing over the management of Tari Hospital to Oil Search and Gas to supply electricity for the province.
The government has promised to deliver these within the next two years.
The Prime Minister’s visit was an opportunity for the resource owners to express their frustrations over delay in their benefits.
However, Prime Minister said all benefits including, royalties, equities ,IDGs, BDGs and High Impact Projects will be disbursed once the landowner identification process is complete.
The Prime Minister announced several projects including sealing of Komo to Mendi Road, new provincial hospital for Hela and gas to supply electricity for Hela and Southern Highlands.
He further announced that Oil Search will be managing Tari Hospital and its Managing Director, Peter Botten, to perform the duties of the chairman of the Hela Provincial Health Authority.
O’Neill also visited Koroba and Komo on day two of his official visit.
The Prime Minister is expected to visit the province later this year to officiate at the launching of Komo International Airport to commence receiving commercial flights.
