NGI Set For 8-man Tournament

Fighters fromthe Niugini Islands Region are set for heat two ofthe Kickboxing Challenge in Kokopo next month.

The region is expected to draw more than fifty best fighters. Twenty-five ofthem will be selected from different weight category to challenge inthe four regions winners elimination round.

The sport has kick up a storm in Kokopo as fighters from Bougainville, Kavieng, Kimbe and Rabaul are keen to compete.

There are three different divisions;the 8-man tournament is strictly for fighters inthe 70 to 72 kilograms; Under Cards are between 54 and 75 kg andthe Main undercards between 76 and 85kg.

The competition only allows fighters who had more than 5 to 10 years’ experience as well as competing at national and international levels.

The female division is an open category from 60 to 75 kilograms.

PNG Kickboxing believes that each region will have a strong team to challenge inthe elimination. The autonomous region of Bougainville is expected to dominatethe fight in different divisions.

Chief Executive ofthPNG Kickboxing Association Stanley Nandex saidthe 8-man concept was to identify talents for the semi- professional level.

The fight will be staged atthe Vunapope Catholic Diocese Hall in May.
